The Sawgrass Group, Inc. was founded in February 2006 by Brent D. Ransom.

Brent Ransom, President — Mr. Ransom is a graduate of Radford University in Virginia with a Masters degree in Industrial / Organizational Psychology. In May 2000, he started his career at the Institute of Public Safety at Santa Fe Community College in Gainesville, Florida. From 2000 to 2006, Mr. Ransom's role at the Institute was to develop and administer multiple choice exams, assessment centers, and entry-level exams for law enforcement and corrections agencies within the state of Florida. Mr. Ransom also participated in the vender selection process for the Florida Basic Abilities Test (FBAT) to ensure the most appropriate test was selected for the Institute of Public Safety. Overall, he was instrumental in improving the standards for promotional testing for numerous agencies and serving as a valuable resource for employee selection and development standards.

Mr. Ransom worked with many agencies during his tenure at the Institute of Public Safety, including: State University System Law Enforcement Agencies (University of Florida, Florida State University, Florida A & M University, University of West Florida, University of Central Florida, University of South Florida, University of North Florida, Florida Gulf Coast University, Florida Atlantic University, and Florida International University), Alachua County Sheriff’s Office, Gainesville Police Department, Cape Coral Police Department, Alachua Police Department, Ocala Police Department, Flagler County Sheriff's Office, Lee County Sheriff's Office, Casselberry Police Department, Daytona Beach Shores Police Department, and the Flagler Beach Police Department.

In February 2006, Mr. Ransom left the Institute of Public Safety and established The Sawgrass Group, Inc. in order to continue serving the promotional exam needs of public safety agencies within the state of Florida and the U.S.
